This native timber brooch features the Calyptorhynchus latirostris Carnaby's Black Cockatoo. The Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo is classified as Endangered due to clearing of forests and woodlands. It eats nuts and seeds of the Banksia, Dryandra, Hakea, Eucalyptus, Corymbia and Grevillea.

Crafted from Allocasuarina fraseriana, commonly known as Western Sheoak found throughout Perth and the South-West Region of WA often in Jarrah Forest. Shoeaks can grow up to 15m high, have needle like leaves and have either male or female flowers. The wood grain has a distinct lace pattern.
